25th Amendment NOW!

We’re sliding into something I never in my life could have imagined.

We are captives of a madman. Yet the mainstream media continues to sane-wash him. Republicans keep pretending he’s not nuts. Democrats know that he is, but they should be screaming it from the rooftops. EVERYONE should be. If this guy doesn’t qualify for being 25th Amendmented (it’s now a verb) who or what would?

Trump wants Greenland’s and Ukraine’s minerals.

Trump wants Venezuela’s oil.

Trump is used to just taking whatever he wants.

After all, he got contractors to work for him for free, by simply not paying them. Is this preoccupation with grabbing other countries by the pussy a wag-the-dog distraction from Epstein, or just his regular old desire to grab everything for himself? (“Me want! Me take!”) He’s like a drunk…careening around, grabbing at things, knocking things over, spilling things, making a giant mess while he still has the chance.

What are we, the people, to do? I feel so helpless. Like all of you, I get dozens and dozens of emails every single day asking me to donate to MoveOn, ActBlue, DSCC, etc….please send $7, $25, $50, $100, $250…whatever you can. Sometimes I donate, but when you get these relentless requests for money, you end up tuning them out, wearily deleting them all. Will donating $7 to ActBlue change a single thing? Or $100? Or $250? Will my donation move the needle at all? Especially when there are billionaire donors propping up the enemy?

I occasionally write to my douche bag congressman. If I get a reply, it’s a form letter thanking me for sharing my opinion, as if he actually gives a shit.

I go to rallies. It’s cathartic to be with my fellow sane people, and to laugh at the great signs, and to cheer the honking cars. But afterwards come the predictable taunts on social media from the Trumpsters, who sneer “So? What good did all that marching do?” Hey, numbskulls, we’re exercising our First Amendment right to express our outrage, while you sit on your butts typing out highly unoriginal insults.

But more and more I wonder; DOES it do any good? It does show the rest of the world that we do not stand with this administration. That’s important. But other than that?

I’ve marched for climate change, for sensible gun laws, for “no kings,” for Black Lives…and nothing has changed.

NOTHING.

It’s only gotten worse.

I keep coming back to this one thought, which is…

I’m glad I’m old.

I’d really rather be spending my golden years relaxing, reading in a hammock while watching birds and squirrels, or by the fire with a mug of low-acid decaf and a cat on my lap. Instead I’m living in constant fear of what this idiot will do next. Wouldn’t it be lovely if, in our final years, we were confident that at least the world was moving in a more positive direction, rather than hanging by a thread?

Though I’m lucky to be old, I grieve for all who are younger, and for my country, and for my planet, and all its living species.
